Open the door, Hal.

Sorry there's nothing grand and exciting to report on from the last couple of days; I've just been working in the shop finishing up my sheer corset (the bra part is lined, so don't get any weird ideas, pervs). It's done now!

Selfie, ya'll!

We went back to Xinbeitou on Saturday afternoon, hoping to go to a private hot spring, but none of the other ladies brought their swimsuits, so we ended up not going (you can go full pelt in a private hot spring, but our American sensibilities kept us from doing so). It was just as beautiful as I remembered, though!

I didn't see this last time!

Nellie, looking completely beautiful!

Taiwan is great about putting theatre spaces everywhere, and also advertising their theatre like movies on the MRT.

I guess I needed to be in the shot too.

After Xinbeitou, we went to see Vanessa's thesis show (she does scenic design) of Ionesco's The Chairs. While it was entirely in Chinese, we could tell is was very well acted, and had really beautiful production quality. **also,Vanessa's boyfriend Evan--who helped Emily and I move to our new place--just got accepted into the UT-Austin lighting MFA program. Go Evan Sung!

A nifty picture of everyone walking to the theatre.

We attended the student dance concert here on Sunday. Until someone told me they were students here, I thought they were professionals. They were phenomenal! I LOVE modern dance, and these performers were spot on with every move. I was told that their dance program here requires each student to take a year of gymnastics as well as their usual dance courses, and you can see it. They were in such control of their movements (and all ridiculously ripped!). These undergrads were at the level of most graduates I've seen. They did an adorable curtain call at the end, as well, where each boy/girl pair did a little move and pose from the show before their bow. It was really sweet!

In other news, we got our production draping assignments:

I'm draping Hilda from The Master Builder. She's got a cute little hiking costume. We're having our draping meeting with Ping Ping, the designer, today at 3. Wish me luck!

House and life things:

I discovered the cafeteria buffet--all of this for US$2!

I found a cockroach in our bathroom. :/ So they've found me...We're going to get some roach traps and steel wool for all of the gaps in the wall, because...yuck!!

Also, I've learned that our door has multiple locks. Emily left for the shop early one morning, and I attempted to follow her. Our large steel front door has one lock from the inside that is a small knob; you must turn the knob 3-4 times to lock or unlock it. From the outside, it has a keyhole that is operated with a crazy old-timey skeleton key. The keyhole reaches through the door to the inside as well. After Emily left, I got ready and tried to exit the house. I unlocked the knob. Nothing. I tried locking it, maybe it was already unlocked. Nothing. I looked behind me, and what was staring at me?

This is our fire alarm, right next to the door. What does it remind you of?

I stood there for a couple of minutes, seriously confused as to what had happened to our door, contemplating going out the window. I called Emily who informed me that when someone exits the house and locks the door from the outside with the key, you have to unlock the door from the INside with the key. Should either one of us ever leave and the remaining one lock the knob from inside, that outsider can never come in. Tricky, Taiwan! I felt a little dumb, but now I know. :/
